Hello guys, It’s safe for me to say Happy New Year, because it’s been a while I picked up my pen to scribble my thoughts, but the time and season calls for it. Firstly, Happy Easter, may the resurrection power bring peace to your life and homes. Amen.
‘I dey greet o!,eku election LOL!!!. This election has been an exciting journey. It has not only been exciting, but unpredictable, and suspense filled. One might even say it was a well orchestrated sitcom, directed by Prof. Attahiru Jega featuring, Orubebe(pdp agent),and Prof. Etu-Efeotor (Federal Uni of Petroleum Resources, Effurum) as the main actors.
I like the way an excerpt in the Daily Sun captured it; “After months of heated political campaigns, and soul-touching debates, the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, General Muhammed Buhari, yesterday(being 31st March) defeated his main rival and candidate of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, with over three million votes”. I must confess, these journalists are good, they have a way of presenting news especially one like this, which is of national interest. However, I beg to vehemently oppose the use of the word ‘defeated’, my reasons,I should say stand to be corrected, but for the fact that it is my opinion, which I’m entitled to, I will go ahead and state it.
I must confess, I’m really excited my vote counted in my first ever franchise experience. I voted ‘baba’ not because he was the lesser of two evils,or because he has open tooth which I thought made him kinda cute *wink*,but because I was fed up with the system, one that could reduce one’s IQ if care is not taken. I was tired of perceiving the same odour for SIX years,I needed something different, not saying this one is a fine scent, but at least, its different. I cannot categorically say that, this will be the best government administration in the history of Nigeria, neither can you categorically tell me otherwise, hence all we can do is pray that our burdens be made lighter in this new administration. No government possesses a Harry Potter wand to perform magic overnight in our derailing economy,so I urge you all to be patient, and peaceful as we embark on this journey.
For those who fear the unknown in this government, assume the worst, and have innumerable questions emanating from both tribal, and religious bias, ideas and history, though such reasons are tenable to an extent as history begs to be heard, need not worry. Time will tell the tale..
Let me sound this note of warning to all you leaders in government and aspirants, know that we shall no longer let sleeping dogs lie, we have woken up to crow of the cock, so take a cue,we will not hesitate to help you hang your boots if you are found incompetent and unfit to lead us by reason of evidence surmounted against you, before the ‘people’s tribunal’, we will again in 4years come out en masse, wearing our jeggings, leggings and jeans, with our blouses, polos and tee shirts, we will even tie wrappers if need be, put on face caps and gele, armed with our brooms, umbrellas, and whatever object might be portrayed on any political campaign flag and vote for ‘change’ yet again. It is our right, our democracy, a government for the people, of the people and by the people. We put you there for a reason so you better perform at least 75% of what you put in your manifesto, because we will never again say ‘boo to a chicken’.
Today I’m ecstatic, for the first time,I can proudly call my self Nigerian. So raise your glasses,a toast to us, we won this,we did it, kudos to everyone who went out to vote, especially the youths who were huge agents of change. I crave your indulgence my parents, but your adage of ‘what the elders see sitting, a young person standing, even if he climbs the Iroko’, does not apply to politics. Now you see times have changed, and in this new era, what you see sitting(in these respect), with glasses, microscopes and telescopes we can see, even beyond here… jungle don mature LOL….
So rather than say Sai Baba, I will rather say Sai Naija!!! Enroute a new nigeria.
Let me spare a penny for your thoughts; tell me, how was your election experience, what was the highlight for you?
